Environmental impact of traditional method of Charcoal production

This book is about the traditional technology of charcoal production and its socio-economic and environmental impact on the communities in KpaAi District - Bong County, Liberia. Charcoal is a modern source of energy for cooking in both rural and urban areas with a large number of rural dwellers usually involved in its production. The impact of charcoal production on human health and the environment have been reported in lots of sources. The aim of this work is to emphasise once again the impact of production on soil minerals, depletion of the ozone layer which many scientists have attributed to the unpredictable climate change with a cumulative effect on food production and the global increase in diseases. Despite these aforementioned environmental impacts of charcoal production, consumption of charcoal in many rural areas in developing countries still is on increase.
