Enrollment and drop out: A study of socio-cultural determinants

It is undoubted to say that education is one of the powerful tools that gears the overall development of the mankind. It doesn¿t mean the mere acquisition of the 3 R¿s, rather it has a wider meaning of acquiring skills and talents that are suitable to lead a civilized social as well as personal life. Acquiring higher education is inevitable in the modern society since we have a lot of challenges to meet, especially in grabbing competitive employment opportunities. As M.K. Gandhi rightly said Education is the all round drawing out of the best in child and man - body, mind, and spirit. It is a progressive process that leads a man from the state of savage to that of civilized. Enrolling students is the great challenge of the state and now after the implementation of Right to Education Act, it has been decentralized and the power of the local bodies have been much higher with regard to education.
