Efficacy of Weed Management Practices in Organic Finger Millet

Organic farming is gaining momentum in world owing to the concerns expressed on the safety of environment, soil, water and food chain. A concern about the potential increase in weed population due to non use of herbicides is rated as serious problem in organic farming. Since chemical intervention is not permitted for weed management, non chemical weed management is the major limitation in field crops like ragi, paddy and other cereals under organic farming. Finger millet is one of the major staple food of farming communities of southern Karnataka. It is one of the important crops both in terms of grain and fodder in southern parts of India for its value added products and nutritious fodder.
