Water is recognized as an important agent in the transmission of several diseases. The drinking of unsafe and contaminated water by children makes them vulnerable for diarrhoeal attack. Several outbreaks of diarrhoea among children in the past are attributable to the consumption of unhygienic contaminated water. WHO estimated that 1.1 billion people drink unsafe water and 88% of the diarrhoeal outbreak is attributed to drinking of unsafe water combined with improper sanitation and unhygienic surroundings. Hence, an attempt was made to study the effect of drinking different sources of water and their efficacy in the outbreak of Shigella associated diarrhoea among children.
