The interaction of mast cells and airway smooth muscle cells have been implicated in several of the pathologies associated with allergic asthma. This dissertation provides evidence to suggest certain chemical mediators can modulate the interaction of these cell subsets, which could contribute to the progression of allergic asthma. Recommendations for further study are also included, including potential clinical applications.
