Effect of Simulated Acid Rain Stress on the Nutrient Quality

Acid rain is a global phenomenon affecting every aspect of man¿s life on the earth. Acid rain is a rain and other forms of deposition that are acidic. Industrialization, population increase and other forms of anthropogenic activities have resulted to increase concentrations of both gaseous and particulate pollutants in the atmosphere causing air pollution. Stress is any form of disturbance that causes alterations in the morphology, whole plant physiology and biochemistry. Acid rain stress like other stressors is directly linked to increased accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) which badly damages cells. Among the most important challenges facing human in the 21st century is ¿¿air pollution¿¿. Air pollutants like oxides of nitrogen and sulphur are the primary causes of acid rain and to some extent ozone. The release of these gases which rapidly react with water in the atmosphere creates an acidic atmosphere with overwhelming effects on human health, plants, soil etc. This book is intended to present research findings on effect of simulated acid rain on nutrient quality of some vegetables species consumed in Nigeria an area with scare information.
