Effect of Procurement Methods on Construction Project Performance

In Ethiopia the construction of many facilities is growing fast as compared to few years back, even though that is true certain projects are performed below the intended quality and also by far exceed the budget allocated and completion time set. Among the many reasons for such poor performance the procurement method and the evaluation system is the one and basic section that need high consideration. Construction project performance is highly influenced by the type of construction procurement method used to deliver the project. In this book the different procurement methods applicable in Ethiopia were investigated and the effect of the procurement methods on construction project performance was assessed. Accordingly, from the respondent feedback it is found that procurement methods in use are much of traditional methods, specifically the lowest evaluated qualified bidder which has direct contribution to the project cost and time over run. Establishment of legislation and laws that encourage using alternatives procurement methods such as Design and Build and Public Private Partnership procurement method were forwarded.
