Effect of Problem solving strategy on achievement in mathematics

Many governments in the developing world have made great efforts to popularize mathematics by changing the curriculum, coupled with teacher in-service training programmes and even trimming the mathematics content but the achievement continues to worry many. Mathematics being a logical science upon which other disciplines rely, great emphasis is made on its minimal pass by students. This serves as a pre-requisite for further training engagements. Many stakeholders question the methods of content delivery by teachers and students' inability to apply the concepts taught to real life situations. The applicability of mathematics content continues to be a subject of very emotional concern. It is in this view that this book presents the Problem solving strategy as a mitigation to the prevailing present problems of achievement and understanding. The study used a problem solving strategy an intervention to addressing the problems of delivery and students' perceived inability to apply the concepts taught.
