Effect of Heat Treatment on Functionally Graded Copper Composite

A Functionally Graded Material (FGM) is an advanced material that is capable of producing gradation of its constituents throughout the component, utilising the fabrication technique and the density difference of its constituents. It has wide applicability in different industries in the present age, as this material could be developed with specific functionality showing the required property at the particular zone. Heat treatment facilitated further improvement of both mechanical as well as tribological performance of a composite. This book details a novel approach of developing a copper FGM composite that could resolve a few of the major challenges faced by the modern electrical vehicle industry - the problems of electrical bearing interfacial pitting, lightweight requirement within metals, corrosion challenges etc. Study on the material under dry sliding controlled condition shows its performance in the actual working conditions. Effect of ceramic reinforcements are also studied including SEM, Micrographs and XRD.
