Effect of Childhood Experience and Resilience to adult's health

Adverse Childhood Experiences refer to some of the most intensive and frequently occurring sources of stress that children may suffer early in life. Such experiences include multiple types of abuse; neglect; violence between parents or caregivers and community violence exposure. It has been shown that prolonged stress in childhood has life-long consequences for a person's health and well-being; it may lead to serious problems such as alcoholism, depression, eating disorders, heart diseases, cancer, and other chronic diseases. Resilience is the ability to manage crises, difficult situations and developmental tasks. Research on resilience has identified several factors that strengthen the power and resources of children as well as promote their abilities to cope successfully with crises and internal and external problems.
