Ecosystemic Approach to Fisheries

The failure of the application of the former approaches of management of fisheries which were based on the chronic maximization of the catches, led to the downfall of several fish stocks around the world. This result has permitted the emergence of new approaches of management among which «The Ecosystemic Approach to Fisheries (EAF)" which constitutes the synthesis that federates the set of the different mediating developed approaches. Although under finalization of its principles of application, this present approach displays real possibilities of application for lasting and responsible management of the Algerian fisheries. This survey, after the presentation and the analysis of the fishing activity in Algeria, aims at showing the principles and the advantages of the EAF. The likeness and the divergences of the present management of the fisheries in Algeria with the principles of the EAF will also be discussed.
