The success of rehabilitation is usually assessed through visual inspection of vegetation establishment. However, such methods ignore the ecosystem functionality of the rehabilitated landscapes. This work describes how the Landscape Function Analysis (LFA) method can be applied to evaluate rehabilitation progress and measure success as exemplified through a systematic assessment of Mhangura Copper Mine tailings in Zimbabwe. Vegetation recovery is also tracked through primary productivity trends using NDVI as an indicator. Useful for all interested in assessment of rehabilitated mined lands.
