Dynamics of cereal production

This study aims to demonstrate the influence of climatic manifestation and soil degradation on cereal production in the rural town of Kouka. The approach followed is systemic. To do this, quantitative and qualitative data were collected from one hundred and fifty household heads, randomly selected from nine villages out of the eighteen in the commune of Kouka. The tools used are the individual questionnaire, the interview guide, Landsat 07 and 08 satellite images from 1998, 2007 and 2018 with an accuracy of 30 m. Meteorological, morpho-pedological, socio-economic and demographic data were also collected from the competent services. Data analysis showed that cereal production conditions (millet, maize, sorghum, rice) are deteriorating due to climate variability and soil degradation. Land use, for anthropogenic activities, shows a decline in vegetation in favor of fields between 1998 and 2018.
