Dunaliella: Antioxidant and Anticancer Perspectives

Algae are primitive photosynthetic plants that live in fresh water and marine. Marine microalgae are of great economic importance; for example, Arthrospira for single-cell protein, Haematococcus for astaxanthin, and Dunaliella for ¿-carotene. This book intends to offer up-to-date knowledge on biomass production of Dunaliella, strain isolation, techniques in raising inoculum, culture maintenance, various applications of Dunaliella, effect of seaweed extracts on microalgal biomass, potential of Dunaliella on fibrosarcoma and the treatment of salt effluent. To accomplish this, the content is organized into four chapters that explain the different habitats of Dunaliella. Importance is also placed on isolation and media enrichment to optimize the algal biomass and ¿-carotene isomers.
