Diabetes Treatment

Diabetes mellitus, once considered a disease of developed countries, in Sub-Saharan Africa where malnutrition and junk food coexist, in addition to the explosion in the number of patients, is already responsible for nearly 9% of deaths, with many disabling complications: cardiovascular diseases, kidney failure, diabetic coma. Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness and accounts for over 50% of non-traumatic amputations in this part of the world. In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the prevalence of diabetes was almost zero 40 years ago. It has risen sharply to 5.8% nationwide and 7% in the city of Kinshasa alone, the capital of the DRC.The objective is to collect information from articles published over the last 20 years and listed in Pubmed/Medline on the role of nutrition and local food intake in the prevention and management of diabetes, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
