Development of Combined Bridge/Pavement Maintenance Management System

The book illustrates the ranking of the main infrastructure assets such as pavements and bridges which is performed through the calculation of the priority index (either single or combined). In this book, a linear mathematical model is proposed which combines the pavement and bridge assets in one priority index using three indicators: pavement condition index (PCI), bridge condition index (BCI), and the common indicator (CI) for both developed countries such as France and developing countries such as Palestine. The relative important weights for the indicators are calculated by using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) multi-criteria decision method. The calculated relative weights are: 0.30, 0.37, and 0.30 for PCI, BCI, and CI for developed countries, respectively. For developing countries, the weights are 0.53, 0.24, and 0.23 for the three indicators, respectively. The robustness of the relative weights of the indicators is checked by sensitivity graphs through calculation the sensitivity interval for each indicator with the condition of respecting the ranking of the indicators.
