Development Management by Gram Panchayat of Manipur State

The primary occupation of the majority of people is agriculture. The Gram Panchayat has played an important role in promoting the implementation of land reforms and land reclamation for the redistribution of land to the landless farm laborers to enhance better production and generate more employment for rural people. The Gram Panchayat is empowered for the identification of beneficiaries through Gram Panchayat for the establishment of cottage industries, benefiting rural artisans, and arranging collaborative support from Khadi and village industries co-operation and other industrial organizations. Small-scale industries are an important segment of the economy of the state. It is contributing substantially in the form of production, employment, and export, thus playing a vital role in fulfilling the socio-economic objectives. So, 'Resource Capacity Building and Indigenous Knowledge' emerged as the most important indicator of effective management of the project by the Gram Panchayat organization.
