Dentistry for pre-liver and pancreas-rim transplant patients

In this book we will address what are the most relevant findings when we perform dental care in patients waiting to be called for transplantation. What is the priority, what the dental surgeon should really know. Through the epidemiological index we can observe a greater predominance of the main diseases in the oral cavity that affect these patients. Pre-transplant patients present alterations in the innate and adaptive immune response, alteration in the intestinal microbiota, dysfunction and failure of some organs. These characteristics increase the risk of infectious diseases that can lead to sepsis and loss of the transplanted graft. Thus, oral microorganisms become a potential threat. Therefore, a detailed dental examination is essential, and the dentist should be aware of the main oral alterations found in these patients, and should be aware of their treatment needs, establishing a protocol of care, in order to adopt conducts, aiming at the early removal of infectious foci and elimination of postoperative risk.
