Deforestation, sectoral CO2 emissions, environmental pollution nexus

The main aim of this paper is to examine the impact of deforestation and sectoral CO2 emissions on environmental pollution in Nigeria using an autoregressive distributed lag covering 1970-2016 periods. Economic growth was utilized as a control series. The long-run result revealed that the estimated values of transport sector CO2 emissions, power sector CO2 emissions and deforestation have significant positive sign with environmental pollution. This implies that transport sector CO2 emissions, power sector CO2 emissions and deforestation causes increase in environmental pollution and reduces environmental quality. On the other hand, long-run outcome for economic growth is statistically significant in influencing environmental pollution. Also, all the short-run parameters were in line with their long-run coefficients.
