Deforestation and Social Resillience: Districts in Indonesia

This book investigates critical issues related to forest resource management in some districts in Indonesia: Merangin, Jambi Province, Gunung Mas, Central Kalimantan, Simalungun, North Sumatera, Kulon Progo, Jogyakarta and so on. First, it emphasizes how forest land conversion from coffee plantations, palm oil, and mining resulted in deforestation. Second, how local government policy responses on deforestation. The third is the impact of deforestation on ecological aspects in terms of flood, drought, forest fires, climate changes, soil erosion, etc. Confronting three critical issues above, the book would like to explore the response in terms of critiques from private sectors, NGOs, academics and local community toward regulation and policy. The strength of the book findings based on field work reality in the mid of society.
