Current problems of the pulp and paper industry in Russia

The pulp and paper industry (PPM) is one of the most important branches of the timber industry complex. The pulp and paper industry of Russia generates most of the profit received by the timber industry, a significant percentage of sales and exports, accumulates the largest funds and carries out the most large-scale investment programs. Nevertheless, at the present stage of development the industry faces big problems connected with the search of new sources of growth and gaining stable positions in the world and domestic market. In order to identify the prospects of the industry it is necessary to analyze the constraints and potential for development, advantages and disadvantages of its functioning in the country. As a result, a concept of competitiveness of the Russian pulp and paper industry will be formulated, on the basis of which an adequate development strategy for the industry can be built.
