Current Issues in the Albanian Financial System

This book is dedicated to Albania and the performance of the domestic financial sector. The performance of the economy and the financial sector in particular is mostly assessed as part of the Western Balkans and South Eastern Europe, without going too much into detail about the situation in Albania. Hence, I decided to dedicate this study entirely to Albania and the performance of the financial system. The main purpose of the study is to find out current problematic issues in the financial sector and based on literature studies and expert interviews to give suggestions for overcoming the current problematics. The most urgent issues include low credit to the private sector and high share of non-performing loans, stagnating insurance market, lack of financial education, poor financial infrastructure, lack of a functional secondary market, high share of informal market, non-functional judicial system and weak institutions. In order to tackle the current problematics, all relevant stakeholders of the economy should cooperate together and introduce effective measures to improve the performance of the financial system.
