Curcuma Longa as a natural approach in Photodynamic Therapy

Diabetes is a metabolic disease characterized by Chronic hyperglycaemia and exacerbated complications. Curcumin, a component of Turmeric has lipid lowering abilities. Also, Curcuminoids has also been proven to improve insulin resistance, decrease glucose and insulin levels, thereby having therapeutic effects in Patients suffering from Diabetes. Periodontitis is the sixth complication of Diabetes. And Diabetes act as a risk factor for development of the disease.Studies have identified improvements in Glycaemic Control following Periodontal Therapy in people suffering from Diabetes. Hence in the study, Photodynamic therapy has also been attempted using curcumin solution and LED light to activate it in Periodontal Pockets in comparison to PDT employed with synthetic dye Methylene Blue dye and application of Diode laser in Periodontal Pockets of Type 2 Diabetic Subjects.
