Cryogenic treatment effect on cyclic behaviour of Ni54Ti46 alloy with shape memory

Alloys with Form Memory - LMF - present a great potential of application in the most diverse fields of engineering, medicine and dentistry. In particular, in applications where FTLs are used as actuators under cyclic loads, the material is subject to structural and functional fatigue. The need to know and understand the cyclic behavior of the material is thus verified. In this context, the effect of deep cryogenic treatment on the cyclic behavior of Ni54Ti46 alloy under thermomechanical loading is investigated. It is a SmartFlex® martensitic wire at room temperature that presents a quasiplastic stress-strain behavior, followed by the shape memory effect when heated above the phase transformation temperature. The objective was to investigate what is the deep cryogenic treatment effect on the cyclic behavior of the material under different thermomechanical loading conditions.
