Crop Regulation, Flowering and Fruit Development in Aonla

Aonla is known as ¿the mother of herbs¿, indigenous to tropical south eastern Asia, particularly in central and southern India. It is one of the richest sources of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and also a rare example of an edible material, rich in phenols and tannins. Fruits of aonla has been recognized for its medicinal and nutritional value and processing utilities. Several varieties and local types are being grown in different states of India. They differ in their performance with respect to flowering behaviour, fruit set and fruit development. Thus, it has become essential to study the phenology of flowering, impact of pruning and changes in the biochemical parameters of different varieties of aonla at various developmental stages to increase the yield and quality of fruits.
