Cow Comfort in Dairy Barns

The work was experimented in the dairy barn of Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Agricultural University which is situated in Konkan region of Maharashtra State of India. This region receives rainfall on an average of 3500 mm and the climate is hot and humid. Thus the cows are tied up in stanchion barn year round. It leads to reduction of milk production of cows. Thus study was taken for comfort of cows by keeping cows on concrete floor and rubber mat floor. The good quality rubber mats were purchased from M/s. DeLaval (India) Company.The book contains original data related to comfort of cows in stanchion barn. It is mainly regarding lying down time of cows, time required by cow to sit, to stand, number of slippages and milk production. The research was carried out during 2009 to 2013 i.e. four years. The book will be useful to researchers, students and farmers.
