Court Interpreting in Algeria

This book explores the practice of court interpreting in Algeria regarding the prerequisites and competences required for the court interpreter, his role in legal settings and mainly the difficulties found in the work environment. Besides, it provides practical recommendations in this regard. The research design makes use of the official data to provide the qualification of court interpreters and their contact information. The other data sources are an online survey and personal interviews. The scope covers official sworn translators-interpreters throughout the country. Sixty interpreters participated in the survey and eight volunteered to be interviewed. The findings show the most challenging and problematic issues encountered by court interpreters along with the practical recommendations and resolutions which may contribute to a fail trial. The suggestions offered by legal interpreters will alert students, teachers, interpreters and court staff members to these challenges, to lead them to better on-going self-development, and to contribute ¿once implemented- to the development of the court interpreting profession.
