Corporate Governance In Banking System

In this book I attempt to design a conceptual model of Corporate Governance for the scheduled commercial banks in India. Corporate governance in banks has become an imperative issue in the post-global financial crisis. A lot of researches have been done since the eruption of the crisis on the corporate governance of financial institutions. This book first reviews theories and the literature on the corporate governance of financial institutions, especially in banks. The study henceforth, explores corporate governance in banks as a distinct concept that has been globally assumed important overtime. Subsequently, reviews the current state of corporate governance in India and explores the scope for improvement of the same corporate governance. The study eventually designs a conceptual model for evaluation of corporate governance of banks in India. The benchmark for the model was Clause 49 of Listing Agreement of the Stock Exchanges in India. This book would provide a framework to academicians, practitioners and policymakers for evaluating the quality of corporate governance of Indian banks.
