Contribution of vegetable crops to food security

Vegetable production in the department of Dagana plays an important role for farmers. Our study was conducted in this locality to analyze market garden crops and their contribution to household food security. In this department, market gardening is practiced in the off-season and farmers organize themselves in the form of market gardening groups around this activity. The results showed that market garden production improves the diet and food security of market garden households. The study made it possible to discover the performance levels of market garden production and to propose recommendations for improvement. This was done with a view to achieving food security for market gardening households in a sustainable manner.
