CONTRIBUTION OF ACHARYA PRAFULLA CHANDRA RAY

Prafulla Chandra Ray had always advocated the use of vernacular language to make children acquire knowledge to the best of their advantage. He wrote science books in Bengali to help the native students. He published more than 158 research papers which were published in renowned journals of that time. Prafulla Chandra very rightly said, ¿Accidents play a conspicuous part in the history of science, but they can be taken advantage of only by those whose minds are predisposed.¿ He discovered the stable compound mercurous nitrite. He also worked on organic compounds containing sulfur, double salt, homomorphism, and fluorination. He always used to say about the progress of India could be achieved only by industrialization. In 1892, he established Bengal Chemical Works with small capital. The initial products of the company were herbal products and indigenous medicines. He also told people to deal in trades for the development of society. He brought a radical revolution in the industry in the Country. His contribution to the field of Chemistry is huge but apart from that, he is known for being a visionary whose entrepreneurial and philanthropic spirit touched the lives of many in Bengal.
