Community Based Decentralized Waste Management for Sustainable Tourism

Tourism has grown into one of the world¿s major industries. As the growth of tourism depends upon the sustainability of environment, tourism has a major role to play in the conservation and protection of natural resources. Unless it is developed in a sustainable manner the key objectives of sustainable tourism could not be achieved. Waste disposal is a serious problem in the areas where tourist arrivals and tourist activities are very high. Pollution of backwater regions due to tourism activities is a major concern and challenge for tourism industry. Improper waste disposal would bring serious negative impacts on host community and destination. Local communities are being threatened due to improper waste management. This book ascertains the importance of community based decentralised waste management for sustainable tourism and identifies various challenges faced by the destination due to improper waste management.
