Communication Media Usage and Uptake Pattern of Inoculant Technology

This study investigated the influence of communication media usage and uptake pattern of inoculant technology in the northern region of Ghana. The study was conducted in the Tolon District and Savelegu Municipality of the Northern Region of Ghana, which were purposively sampled. Thirty five respondents from each of the three communities randomly selected in each district, were used as respondents for the study. Questionnaires and personal interviews were used in collecting data from 210 legume farmers sampled for this study. Secondary data was also obtained from SARI and IITA offices respectively. Descriptive statistics namely percentages and frequencies as well as two-way ANOVA and multiple linear regression were used to analyse the data. The study results revealed that, communication methods used by promoters of Rhizobium inoculant in the dissemination of information on Rhizobium inoculant are radio, demonstration and video as well as combination of these methods. However, the most communication method in accessing information on agricultural innovation is radio, followed by demonstration and video.
