Common Medicinal Plants Used as Herbs

Medicinal plants belong to a big plant group with a great interest due to its pharmaceutical, cosmetic and nutritional application. In addition, they are also an alternative to traditional crop with species in high demand at the current international market. The book is divided in to seven chapters. These chapters explain the meaning of herbs, their importance and classification of herb. A scientific review of the efficacy of herb, how plant used as herbs are harvested and stored to ensure the efficacy of the herb was also described. The various methods of packaging and labeling were also mentioned. The future of herb as alternative medicine was briefly mentioned. Herbs must be stored under controlled temperature, pressure, air and light etc in order to retain the active constituents of the herbs in different storage container with proper labeling after packaging with specific packing material for different parts of the medicinal herbs. In this way, safety, efficacy and quality of the herb shall be maintained.
