Coconut Harvesting and Storage Structure

Over the last few decades the demand of coconuts is increased tremendously in almost all parts of world. It is due to health benefits of coconut. Coconut water a natural, nutrient rich isotonic drink. It is high in electrolytes, chlorides, potassium, and magnesium and has a moderate amount of sugar, sodium and protein. It's also a good source of dietary fibre, manganese, calcium and vitamin C.The harvesting and storage is big problem for coconut growers because the coconut palms are approximately 6-15 m tall.Nuts are harvested by climbing on the tree and bunches are cut using a knife attached to bamboo or the climber uses a small ladder for this purpose.In countries where there is shortage of skilled labor the nuts are not harvested and allowed to fall on their own accord and fallen nuts are collected from the ground at intervals. The climbing operation is a tedious, tiresome, laborious and life risky job.In view of harvesting of coconut through ground controls the efforts are discussed in book to design a suitable coconut harvester.The tender nuts kept in open remain good to taste up to few hours only and thereafter become sour.Design of storage structure to store nuts is discused
