CNS activity of hydro alcoholic extract of Litsea glutinosa

A phytochemical screening data suggested that the crude methanolic extract of Litsea glutinosa leaves posseses terpenoids, phenols, saponins. The leaf oil of Litsea glutinosa contains complex mixture of numerous compounds which were present in trace amounts. Phytol, thujopsene and caryophyllene were found in a remarkable amount . The phytochemical investigation of leaves of Litsea glutinosa revealed the presence secondary metabolites like alkaloids, anthraquinones, flavonoids, glycosides, phenols, saponins, steroids, tannins, terpenoids, volatile compound, amino acid, carbohydrate. The phytochemicals like saponin, flavonoid, resin, tannin, alkaloid and glycoside possess CNS activity . Phytochemical analysis showed the presence of Flavonoids and phenolic compounds have been reported to have multiple biological effects such as Central nervous system disorders, antioxidant activity, analgesic anti-inflammatory inhibition of mast cell histamine release antiulcerogenic, cytotoxic, antihypertensive, hypolipidemic, antiplatelet and neurodegenerative diseases.
