Child Rights, Education and its Linkages through Ethiopian Case Study

Education plays a vital role for the overall improvement of human personality. These include the right to freedom of speech and expression and other similar rights cannot be respected and fully enjoyed without a citizen being educated and is conscious of his self-dignity. The right to education is significant also because it empowers people to make the rights important. Article 13 of the ICESCR identifies the right to education and urges exactly that, education is the vehicle for the expansion of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and ultimate freedoms. It encourages understanding, acceptance and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups, and further the actions of the United Nations for the maintenance of peace. Education is serving citizens particularly children to develop a set of attitudes, values, skills, beliefs and knowledge that are favorable to the preservation of democratic institutions. Education frees human being from the chains of ignorance, denial and misery. Hence it allows the children to develop understanding and inculcate positive attitudes, values and habits .
