Chemo-Biological Studies On Catnip (Nepeta Cataria L.)

The pharmacological effects of successive as well as 70% ethanol extracts of N. cataria on some biochemical parameters such as glucose, insulin, carbohydrate hydrolyzing enzymes; liver steatosis markers; total cholesterol; HDL-C; LDL-C; triglycerides; total lipid; liver function enzymes; ALT, AST, ALP and total protein; antioxidant activity of extracts using NO in STZ diabetic rats compared to the currently used Glicalized drug were studied. In addition, histological investigations were performed. The results obtained revealed, anti-hypoglycemic, antioxidant, anti-lipidemic effects of chloroform, petroleum ether as well as 70% ethanol extracts in comparison with Gliclazide as reference anti- diabetic drug.
