Capacity Building Needs of Lecturers in Soil Fertility and Fertilizer

This study determined capacity building needs of lecturers in soil fertility and fertilizer management practices for effective teaching of students in Colleges of Education in South-East, Nigeria. Eleven research questions were answered while three null hypotheses were tested. Descriptive survey research design was adopted. The population of the study was 157 lecturers who were all involved in the study. The instrument for data collection was a 485-structured item questionnaire which was face validated by five experts. The questionnaire had two categories with internal consistency of 0.96 and 0.93 determined using Cronbach Alpha method. Weighted mean and Improvement Need Index (INI) were used to answer the research questions while Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to test the null hypotheses. Results revealed that 481 items were needed by the lecturers but needed capacity building on 446 items in soil fertility and fertilizer management practices for effective teaching of students in Colleges of Education in South-East, Nigeria. It was recommended among others that relevant stakeholders should organize capacity building intervention programme for the lecturers.
