Researchers have voiced out that cannibalism used to be widespread in the past among human beings across the whole globe. More importantly, cannibalism is still practised in various parts of Africa and among South Pacific cultures. Besides, some reporters have even found that in insular Melanesia, indigenous flesh-markets even existed. Meanwhile, Fiji came to be known as the Cannibal Isles since many cannibals were and are present over there. Cannibalism has been well documented around the world, from Fiji to the Amazon Basin to the Congo to Maori New Zealand. Neanderthals are believed to have practised cannibalism and Neanderthals may have been eaten by anatomically modern humans!
