Blood Progesterone Determination by Lateral Flow Immunoassay in Dairy Cattle

Progesterone lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) is a semi quantitative test for determination of P4 in a single drop of blood. The test results are based on the development of purple colour intensity on the testlines of LFIA strips. The device can be used for monitoring cyclicity, point of care determination of estrus and early diagnosis of non pregnancy (test done day 21 post insemination). The method is easy to perform,fast and needs no pre sample processing. As this is a new technology in Kenya, this book provides information on P4 levels in form of colour intensity development at the test line of the LFIA strip at different stages of the reproductive status in dairy cattle of different breeds in Kenya.The interpretation of the different P4 levels for use in decision support in reproductive management of dairy cattle is well explained in this book. The book also captures information on the knowledge, attitude and practices of dairy industry stakeholders in Kenya regarding this LFIA technology.
