Blood and bone marrow cytology in the digital age

The objective of this work was to create an educational pathway integrating digital technology for biology residents in order to validate the examination of practical work in cytology. It is an educational pathway comprising eight learning sequences carried out in conjunction with the hospital internship in the laboratory. Our training project had for theme 'Practical learning to read cytological slides' with 8 face-to-face sessions and 8 online trainings. We designed 8 learning sequences: normal bone marrow cytology, cytological study of bone marrow aplasia, megaloblastic anemia, myeloproliferative neoplasia, acute lymphoblastic and myeloid leukemia, lymphoid neoplasia, myelodysplastic syndromes and finally a hybrid mock examination. A variety of digital resources have been posted online along with online formative assessments planned during the learning sequences. This educational pathway integrating digital technology will stimulate autonomy and group work among learners in a hospital environment.
