Biodiesel From Non-Edible Oil Feedstocks

Approximately 85% of the global energy supply (over 15 TW) comes from fossil fuels, leaving extremely large carbon foot print to the humankind. The global greenhouse gas (GHGs)emissions have reached over 30 billion tonnes annually and is expected to increase significantly in the years to come due to high energy demand. Transportation sector is one of the large contributors of such large amount of GHGs. Biodiesel,which is a strong alternative to petroleum diesel can be used to substitute the use of petroleum diesel reducing significant amount of GHG and air emissions.However, the biodiesel feedstock should not be taken from food grade grains and only non-edible sources should be used for its production.This book offers clear alternatives of feedstocks for biodiesel production.All the suggested potential sources of feedstocks have been characterized for fuel and atomization properties of biodiesel.In addition to the feedstock characterization, this book for the first time evaluates sustainability qualitatively and quantitatively using a case study.
