Bioavailability and Ecotoxicity of Plastics

This book offers a unique and practical approach to ecotoxicological studies on the soil ecosystem. It is a research on the impact of Plastics on soil and soil biological sentinels. This research has revealed the presence of some plasticizers like Bisphenol A and Phthalates in the soil. It has established the fact that Plasticizers are released into the soil as results of a degree of Plastic degradation. It has further proven that these Plasticizers adversely affect soil physico-chemical properties and could illicit toxic effects on soil and soil biological sentinels. The analysis on plants shows that Plastics support germination and growth of Phaseolus vulgaris which means that these Plastic granules could serve as manure or fertilizer which could be used to grow non edible plants.
