Bioactive materials can be considered as boon to dentistry because of its regeneration potential.These material acts directly on vital tissue inducing its healing and repair.The field of biocompatibility is interdisciplinary and draws allknowledge from material science, bioengineering, biochemistry and other fields.In the development of any biomaterial one must consider strength, aesthetics and functional aspects of the material as well as biocompatibility. Various materials are widely accepted as biomaterials and each has got special properties which makes it an effective material of choice in root canal therapy. Various new bioactive materials are available in today¿s time like mineral trioxide aggregate, bioactive glass,bioaggregate,endobinder, fluoride-containing MTA,etc. are being extensively researched.New mechanisms for adhesion, integration, and sealing of dentin are in the works using bioactive and biomimetic technologies.These materials will behave more like natural teeth and will change the way we think about restoring teeth.This highlights the properties and clinical application of the new bioactive materials in endodontic therapy.
