Basics of Pharmacy

Pharmacy: The word pharmacy is derived from the Greek word ¿Pharmakon¿, meaning medicine or drug. According to the dictionary pharmacy is defined as ¿the art and science of preparing and dispending drug¿ pharmacy is a health profession concerned specifically with the knowledge of drugs and wisdom in their uses. This profession links the health with chemical sciences. Modern pharmacy services include patient care, clinical services, ensuring safety and efficacy of medications, and providing patients counseling and drug information. Today, the pharmacists are also considered as health practitioners who are responsive to the needs of patients. Pharmacist: Pharmacist is an expert on drugs and medicines. Pharmacist is qualified person who for fees, salary or other consideration paid to him, manufactures, prepares, distributes, sells or serves any prescription for any medicine, drug or pharmaceutical preparation. He is a skilled and highly-trained healthcare professional. A qualified person who has got registration from Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh (PCB) or from any pharmacy related regulatory bodies of other countries is called Registered Pharmacist (RPh).
