Basal Implants

A demanding procedure in the rehabilitation of atrophied edentulous jaws is implant insertion. Various bone augmentation procedures like ridge augmentation, sinus lift are possible today, which increases the risk and cost of dental implant treatment as well as the number of necessary operations. Patients with severely atrophied jawbones paradoxically receive little or no treatment. Basal implants are helpful in avoiding risky and expensive bone augmentation procedures. Basal implants are dental implants that use the basal cortical portion of the jaws for implant retention. These implants are uniquely and specifically designed for the sole purpose of gaining anchorage from the basal cortical bone and have gone through several changes and modifications in the past several decades. The modern basal implant has a sophisticated yet simple design, surgical protocol and is a prosthetic-friendly system. These properties have led several practitioners around the globe to include basal implantology into their practices and so far this system has delivered sufficiently successful results.
