AUTOMATION IN NIGERIAN LIBRARIES:AN OVERVIEW

The book examined automation programmes with special reference to Nigerian Libraries. It focused on different aspects of automation programmes, right from the introduction of computers, the application to library services, packages available both foreign and indigenous and to support services for software packages. Digitisation, database and other issues on automation of libraries like networks, networking for resource sharing, Internet and digital libraries were also discussed. Since the target audience were Nigerian libraries, the issues above were related to Nigerian Libraries. The book was written in such way that also makes it relevant to other West African countries. Textbook like this with such collections of contents on automation with Nigerian libraries and users in mind are difficult to find. With topics solely on automation in Nigeria Libraries, the automation experience of some Nigeria libraries and many local examples make it a good Nigerian book on automation. Those areas on a general discussion of automation were included because of the impact it will have on Nigerian Libraries and its users. The language used are simple and the lucid style.
