Assessment of Textbook Programme: Retrospect and Prospects

About the Book Access to educational opportunity is a prerequisite for social and economic transformation in contemporary society. This work assesses the utilization of textbooks at primary school level as an avenue for knowledge and skill acquisition for development. The work provides an exclusive and timely analysis of the procurement and utilization of textbooks in a typical rural context by providing both qualitative and quantitative data to triangulate the findings. By assessing the textbook programme, the author brings to the fore lessons learned and discusses the implications as well as practical interventions for enhancing teaching effectiveness, a crucial ingredient for the realization of Millennium Development Goals and Kenya's Vision 2030.
