Assessment of Information Literacy Skills among Undergraduate Students

Information Literacy Skills (ILS) have become survival skills for the undergraduate students in the 21st Century as the society moves from print into the digital environment. Although, the subject has generated a vast body of literature, it remains under-developed in Africa in general and Malawi in particular. As a result, there is limited understanding of how such skills can be imparted and assessed to university students.Therefore, this book provides practical experiences pertaining to assessment of ILS among undergraduate students as they seek to satisfy their day to day information needs. The book also unveils the challenges students encounter in their quest to acquire ILS in academic environments which are under-resourced and then, recommend strategies to confront them. Most importantly, current debates based on various theoretical underpinnings in Information Literacy Assessment such SCONUL model, Information Search Process model, the Big6 skills model and others are discussed and reviewed thoroughly. The book is targeting LIS students (both Undergraduates and Graduates) and Academic Librarians involved in research and teaching Information Literacy and Information Behaviour.
