Assessment of Factors Affecting Adoption of Conservation Agriculture

The purpose of this study was to examine factors affecting adoption of conservation agriculture (CA) in Boricha Woreda. Sample kebeles were selected through purposive sampling procedure after the sample CA adopter and non-adopter households were stratified in to two groups. The result of binary logit model showed that CA adoption is positively and significantly influenced by incentive, advisory service of extension agents and CA training topics covered. The overall finding of the study emphasized the high importance of economic support in providing agricultural inputs as incentives and institutional support in providing comprehensive trainings and consultancy services of extension agents so as to enhance adoption of CA. Hence, it is advisable to give due emphasis on improvement of both socio-economical and institutional system by the programmes of Meserete Kristos Church Relief & Development Association and Hawassa Agricultural Research Center for wider adoption of CA for ensuring food security of poor farmers.
